About

Hello

🇬🇧 ✈️ 🇺🇸

I’m Lewis, a British web developer living in San Jose, California.

I’ve been building websites as a hobby since my early teens and professionally since 2010.

I’m currently focused on React.js (Typescript), Node.js (or Deno), and Laravel, but I’m not married to any technology. The goal is to create User Experiences that are lightweight, compelling, and built with best practices.

My spare time hobbies are DIY, 3D Printing, and projects which usually involve a Raspberry Pi or Arduino.

This blog is mostly comprised of solutions to web development problems that I found interesting, plus the occasional opinion piece. It’s a static Jekyll site using a slightly modified Poole theme, because sometimes websites are just better when they’re simple.

If you’d like to get in touch, you can reach me at l.tyler at gmail.com

Gear

  • Thinkpad T480 (i7, 16gb, Manjaro Linux (Gnome), 4K IPS Panel mod)

My main laptop - the 8th generation i7 has a great performance to power consumption ratio and is decent at compiling, doing graphical work like mockups and generally handling the bloat of the modern web. Recent versions of the Gnome desktop environment are very reliable, attractive and are a great alternative to MacOS.

  • Thinkpad X220 (i5, 8gb, Arch Linux, Nitrocaster FHD Panel mod)

Loaded with Luke Smith’s Larbs which provides an extremely powerful yet minimal, Vim keys-centric computing experience. Includes the DWM tiling window manager and lots of useful scripts. Its 12.5” size makes it perfect for non-graphically intensive tasks like back end work.

  • 24” Dell Monitor (1440p / 144hz) + 24” LG 24UD58-B 4K IPS
  • Anne Pro 2 Keyboard
  • Logitech G305 Mouse
  • Thinkpad Docking Stations w/ KVM switch
  • Custom NAS w/ Openmediavault + Portainer (Docker)

  • Simple Terminal
  • Vim
  • Code - OSS (with Vim keys extension)
